WORKSHOP INFORMATION ICAR WINTER SCHOOL ON GENETIC AND GENOMICS TOOLS FOR SUSTAINABLE AQUACULTURE AND FISHERIES MANAGEMENT

The Winter School will focus on genetic and genomic tools for sustainable aquaculture and fisheries management. The program will provide participants with the knowledge of advanced techniques for managing marine biodiversity, stock identification, and health management. Topics will include:

  • Molecular tools for marine biodiversity characterization (barcoding)
  • Molecular tools for stock identification in fisheries (population genetics)
  • Functional genomics in fisheries and mariculture
  • Metagenomics and environmental DNA for fish health and stock estimation
  • Software packages for genetics and genomics
  • Hands-on training in Next Generation Sequencing and Transcriptomics

Eligibility: Scientists and faculty members from ICAR and SAUs, not below the rank of Assistant Professor or Scientist (or equivalent), are eligible to apply. The number of participants is limited to 25, and selection will be based on eligibility criteria. Selected participants will be notified via email.

  • Intimation to Selected Applicants: 3rd January 2025
  • Confirmation by Participants: 6th January 2025
  • Winter School Duration: 15th January to 4th February 2025

Accommodation and Travelling Allowances: Expenses for boarding and lodging arrangements for selected participants will be covered by the organizers as per ICAR guidelines. Travel expenses for participants from SAIS and other ICAR institutions will be reimbursed, with the travel restricted to AC II tier fare via the shortest route, subject to availability of funds. Participants are required to produce original travel tickets as proof of travel. Local candidates are not eligible for boarding, lodging, or transportation benefits as per ICAR rules but will be provided lunch and inter-session tea.

Accommodation Details: Accommodation and food will be provided on an economy level. Detailed accommodation arrangements will be communicated to selected candidates.

Travel Information: Kochi is well connected by air, road, and rail. ICAR-CMFRI is located near Ernakulam High Court. Travel expenses will be reimbursed as per ICAR rules, with the reimbursement limited to the AC II tier fare for rail travel, or equivalent fare for road travel.

Boarding and Lodging: Free accommodation and meals will be provided at the CMFRI guest house. Participants are requested not to bring family members, as accommodations are strictly for trainees. Local participants are not eligible for lodging and boarding but will be provided lunch and inter-session tea.

How to Apply:

  1. Create an account on the CBP Portal.
  2. Login to the portal and apply for the training program titled “Genetic and Genomics Tools for Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries Management.”
  3. Submit a Demand Draft of Rs. 50/- (non-refundable) in favor of ICAR Unit-CMFRI and upload the scanned copy.
  4. Submit the application form after approval from the competent authority.
