Chennai: Advancing aquaculture initiatives, the Kakdwip Research Centre (KRC) of ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture (CIBA), Chennai, has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ms. Kamala Feeds in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. This collaboration aims to operate the feed mill at KRC, Kakdwip, and facilitate the production of various aquafeed formulations developed by ICAR-CIBA through a public-private partnership.

Ms. Kamala Feeds, a startup group with expertise in manufacturing and marketing shrimp and fish feeds, will play a crucial role in this partnership. The MoU was officially signed by Dr. Debasis De, Head of KRC at ICAR-CIBA, and Shri. Swapan Kumar Barui, Proprietor of Ms. Kamala Feeds, in the presence of Dr. Kuldeep K. Lal, Director of ICAR-CIBA.

Dr. Lal underscored the importance of formulated feed for commercial fish or shrimp production and highlighted that this collaboration would contribute to upscaling cost-effective feed technologies developed by CIBA. Dr. De provided insights into the existing feed mill facilities at KRC and expressed optimism that the partnership would make quality feed accessible to aqua farmers in the Sundarban region at a reasonable cost.
