ICAR NBFGR and Hemnagar Sundarban Dream Collaborate to Empower Fish Farmers in Darjeeling with Trout Hatchery Initiative

The ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow, working in partnership with Hemnagar Sundarban Dream, West Bengal has developed a small trout hatchery and rearing unit and a concurrent sensitisation and capacity development programme to back up fish farmers at Takdah, Darjeeling, West Bengal under the STC and SCSP plans.

Dr. U.K. Sarkar-Director of ICAR-NBFGR-semi-intensive fish farming has been talked about in terms of improving livelihoods in hill areas. He stressed the factors that had given rise to the recently built trout hatchery on the local trout farming. Dr. Anutosh Paria, Scientist and Nodal Officer at ICAR-NBFGR, is another distinguished name in the field of food security in India.

Mr. G. Mustafa, Secretary of “Hemnagar Sundarban Dream”, West Bengal, a national level eco-tourism movement, was among the attendees at the event. The technical session touched on conditions for biodiversity, diseases, and feed management. In sum, 305 beneficiaries received several types of aquaculture inputs, such as seeds of some food fish ornamental fish aquaculture units, and others, in the form of small scale trout hatchery and rearing unit.
