Fisheries officials in Warangal district are set to release an impressive 1.94 crore fishlings into local water bodies during the current financial year in a concerted effort to support caste-based occupations and fortify the rural economy . This strategic move, backed by the Department of Fisheries, is a testament to the government’s dedication to the welfare of local communities, offering fish seeds to fishermen with full subsidies.
The comprehensive plan, valued at around Rs. 2 crores, involves the distribution of fish seeds to 703 ponds/tanks across the district. The meticulous allocation process is orchestrated by the Fisheries Department, with the aim of completing distribution by the first week of September. The initiative capitalizes on the recent abundant rainfall and water supply from the KLIS through SRSP canals, resulting in the filling of numerous ponds/tanks in the district.
The cooperative efforts of 184 fisheries cooperative societies, comprising approximately 14,650 fishermen, play a pivotal role in executing this initiative. The state government allocates around Rs. 2 crores annually to supply fish seeds to these societies. Notably, 17,400 free fish seeds have already been released into a tank at Rayaparthy recently.
In a forward-looking proposal, fisheries officials are extending this initiative to prawns, seeking 100% subsidies for the release of prawn seeds. The proposal outlines the release of 10.50 lakh shrimp seeds into various ponds, including the Mylaram Reservoir. This multifaceted approach underscores a commitment to sustainable fisheries practices and economic empowerment in the region.
