He pointed out that the fisheries sector has played a substantial role in contributing to India’s GDP growth, and assured that the newly established fishermen’s welfare fund will be dedicated to the betterment of the community. He also noted that previous governments had often regarded the fishermen community merely as a vote bank without actively working towards their welfare.
