NITI Aayog Orchestrates Workshop to Drive Sustainable Growth in Indias Marine Fisheries

NITI Aayog is set to host a high-level national workshop on January 5 in Kochi in order to address challenges and foster sustainable growth in India’s marine fisheries. The workshop aims to harness the potential of fisheries in coastal states and will see participation from NITI Aayog officials, Union Fisheries Ministry representatives, and fisheries departments of nine coastal states and one Union Territory.

Organized in collaboration with the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) and the Kerala Fisheries Department, the workshop provides a platform for policymakers, industry experts, and researchers to engage in discussions, share experiences, and collectively work toward a robust and sustainable future for the marine fisheries sector.

The agenda includes discussions on optimal utilization of marine resources, certification and sustainability, market linkages, value addition in the seafood industry, and addressing challenges faced by the fishing and seafood sector.

The workshop is deemed significant as it emphasizes cooperative efforts between coastal states and the central government to unlock the vast potential of India’s marine wealth. The overarching goal is to formulate tailored strategies and partnerships to overcome challenges and explore promising prospects in the marine fisheries sector.
