Rare Kachidi Fish Auctioned for Rs. 4 Lakhs in Andhra Pradesh

In a remarkable catch off the coast of Antharvedi sea, fishermen from Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh landed a rare kachidi fish. The prized catch was auctioned at Antharvedipalem mini fishing harbor in Konaseema district, where a merchant acquired two of these fishes for a staggering sum of Rs. 4 lakhs.

The fishermen highlighted the uniqueness of these fishes, noting that their white bladder, known as maw, holds significant value in medicinal and surgical applications. The maw is sought after for its use as a membrane in medicine and as a suture thread in surgeries, driving up the demand for these rare specimens.

This exceptional auction underscores the lucrative market for rare and valuable marine resources, reflecting the importance of sustainable fishing practices and the economic opportunities they present for coastal communities.

The event also sheds light on the ecological diversity of the Antharvedi sea and the skill and dedication of the local fishermen who navigate its waters. As such, it serves as a testament to the rich marine heritage of Andhra Pradesh and the significance of preserving its coastal ecosystems for future generations.
