The Andhra Pradesh government is set to transform its coastal infrastructure with a substantial investment of ₹80 crores, channelized towards the construction of six fish landing centres across strategic locations. These centers are slated to emerge in Bheemili (Visakhapatnam district), Rajayyapeta (Anakapalli), Chintapalli (Vizianagaram), Rayadaruvu (Tirupati), Dondawaka (Anakapalli), and Uppalanka (Kakinada).
Directly benefiting an estimated 50,000 fishermen in these coastal regions, these fish landing centres not only promise to invigorate the local economy but also signify a technological leap in fishing and allied activities. The dearth of adequate fish landing centres and jetties has been identified as a leading cause prompting local fishermen to migrate to states such as Gujarat, Odisha, Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka.
The strategic placement of these landing centres aims to fill this critical void, ensuring improved facilities for fishermen while contributing to economic growth in the region. The infusion of technology is expected to elevate efficiency and productivity in the fishing sector, promoting sustainable practices and curbing the outmigration of local talent.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to sustaining the livelihoods of fishermen and fostering holistic development in coastal communities throughout Andhra Pradesh. The successful establishment of these fish landing centres is poised to bring transformative change to the state’s fisheries sector and enhance the well-being of its coastal population.
