In a historic milestone for sustainable aquaculture, Azerbaijan Fish Farm (AFF) has achieved the prestigious Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification, becoming the world’s first sturgeon breeding farm to earn this coveted recognition. AFF, established in 2017, has consistently prioritized innovation and responsible fish breeding, particularly focusing on caviar production in Azerbaijan.
The BAP certification, awarded by the Global Seafood Alliance (GSA), signifies AFF’s unwavering commitment to environmentally and socially responsible seafood practices. The certification sets a remarkable standard for aquaculture operations globally.
Mike Berthet, a market development representative for the Global Seafood Alliance, commended AFF’s dedication to responsible practices, emphasizing their commitment to environmental responsibility, social accountability, food safety, and animal welfare.
AFF’s mission goes beyond just responsible sturgeon aquaculture; it is also deeply committed to the conservation of sturgeon populations in the endangered Caspian Sea. To this end, the company organizes fish release events, where they release ten sturgeons into the Caspian Sea for every jar of caviar sold, further solidifying their dedication to the preservation of this precious species.
This remarkable achievement by Azerbaijan Fish Farm underscores the global aquaculture industry’s growing commitment to sustainability and responsible practices, setting a shining example for others to follow in their footsteps.
