The Central Aquaculture Genetics, Pathology, and Food Testing Laboratory (CAGPFTL) located at the RGCA Headquarters in Sirkali, Mayiladuthurai District, TN, is a cutting-edge facility equipped with modern instruments to ensure the highest sensitivity and specificity of tests. It is one of the few NABL accredited (ISO/IEC 17025: 2017, Certificate No. – TC-13191) aquaculture pathology and genetics labs in India.

Admission Procedure:

  1. Application Process:
    • Interested candidates must send a request email to centrallabrgca@gmail.com or rgcacgl@gmail.com mentioning their research area or topics of interest.
    • For Students/Research Scholars:
      • Submit a recommendation/permission letter from the Principal/HOD/Guide.
      • Include a CV/Biodata/Resume.
      • Attach a scanned copy of the College/University ID card.
    • For Non-Students:
      • Send a request letter along with a CV/Biodata and any Government-issued ID card.
  1. Program Details:
    • The available programs, durations, and corresponding fees are detailed in Annexure-1.
  2. Certification:
    • Upon completion of the program, a certificate will be issued by the Project Director, RGCA, subject to the submission of a No-Dues certificate from the office and a recommendation from the lab staff/section.

Program Fees and Duration:

  • Up to 12 working days:
    • Students/Research Scholars: Rs. 7,500 (Inclusive of GST)
    • Non-Student Candidates: Rs. 10,000 (Inclusive of GST)
  • Up to 30 working days:
    • Students/Research Scholars: Rs. 10,000 (Inclusive of GST)
    • Non-Student Candidates: Rs. 20,000 (Inclusive of GST)
  • 31-60 working days:
    • Students/Research Scholars: Rs. 15,000 (Inclusive of GST)
    • Non-Student Candidates: Rs. 30,000 (Inclusive of GST)
  • 61-90 working days:
    • Students/Research Scholars: Rs. 20,000 (Inclusive of GST)
    • Non-Student Candidates: Rs. 40,000 (Inclusive of GST)
  • More than 90 working days:
    • Fees decided by the committee based on the nature of work.

Available Laboratory Sections:

  • Molecular Pathology (pathogen detection in Crustacean and finfishes)
  • Microbiology
  • Histopathology
  • Water and Soil Quality Analysis
  • Shrimp Post Larvae Health Analysis
  • Genetic Research – Species Identification
  • Genetic Research – Sequencing (bacterial, fungal, and other samples)
  • Residue Analysis in Seafood Testing (LC-MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS)

Training Programs for the Seafood Sector:

  • Identification of Seafood Fraud using Molecular Techniques:
    • Duration: 5 Days
    • Fee: Rs. 12,000 (Inclusive of GST)

Accommodation: Separate hostel facilities for girls and boys are available with a canteen on campus. Tariff details are as follows:

  • Officers/Staff of MPEDA and its societies:
    • AC: Rs. 450
    • Non-AC: Rs. 300
  • Others:
    • AC: Rs. 800
    • Non-AC: Rs. 500
  • Students/Scholars:
    • Dormitory: Rs. 100
