The survey vessel MFV Matsya Darshini, stationed at the Visakhapatnam Base of the Fishery Survey of India, embarked on an exploratory mission to survey the fishery resources in the waters off the coast of Andhra Pradesh during the month of August 2023. On the 20th of August 2023, the MFV Matsya Darshini set sail on a mission that would span several weeks, covering a significant expanse of Andhra Pradesh’s coastal waters. Mumbai, India: In an effort to bolster financial inclusion and empower farmers, a National Conference on Kisan Credit Card (KCC) held in Mumbai featured Union Ministers highlighting the importance of the KCC scheme.

Minimum Checklist for KCC Loans:

Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala, called upon banks to establish a minimum checklist for approving Kisan Credit Card loans. Drawing a parallel with the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme, he suggested that state governments identify eligible farmers for KCC loans. Rupala stressed the significance of financial inclusion and encouraged all farmers to embrace the advantages offered by the KCC Scheme.

PM Modi’s Vision for Farmers

Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Dr. L. Murugan, underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the welfare of underprivileged farmers. He explained that the KCC scheme was introduced to liberate farmers from the burden of heavy interest rates imposed by private moneylenders. Dr. Murugan emphasized the Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Seva, Sushashan, and Garib Kalyan’ (Service, Good Governance, and Welfare of the Poor). He pointed out that financial inclusion schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), MUDRA Loans, and SVANidhi play a pivotal role in achieving ‘Garib Kalyan.’

Priority for Fisheries Sector Applicants

Union Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad, urged bank representatives to prioritize the allocation of Kisan Credit Cards to applicants from the fisheries sector. He also called for expeditious processing of pending KCC applications, including those received from the fisheries sector.

Massive Participation

The conference witnessed significant participation, with a total of 80,000 attendees participating through physical and virtual modes. Representatives from 35 States/Union Territories joined the conference from 370 locations, highlighting the widespread interest in the Kisan Credit Card scheme.

Minister for Fisheries of Maharashtra, Sudhir Mungantiwar, and State Minister for Revenue, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy Development, Radhakrishna Eknathrao Vikhe Patil, were also present at the conference, reaffirming the commitment of states to support farmers’ financial inclusion through the Kisan Credit Card scheme.
