South Salmara, Assam: In a momentous occasion, Assam’s Fisheries Minister, Parimal Suklabaidya, unveiled a cutting-edge fish feed mill with a remarkable capacity of 2-3 tonnes per hour. This significant step, carried out under the CSS scheme at a cost of ₹199.50 lakh, is geared towards addressing the rising demand for fish feed within the region.
The inauguration ceremony not only marked the commencement of this state-of-the-art facility but also highlighted the ambitious plans of the Fisheries Department. Minister Suklabaidya outlined their vision to achieve a local production capacity of 2 lakh MT of feed by 2026 through the establishment of similar fish feed mills.
Applauding Assam’s achievements in the fisheries sector, Minister Suklabaidya emphasized the state’s self-sufficiency in fish production and surplus in fish seed production. This success positions Assam as a frontrunner in the industry.
Expressing optimism, Minister Suklabaidya stated that the newly inaugurated fish feed mill would play a pivotal role in meeting the needs of fish farmers, not only in the district but also across the entire state. He expanded the scope by mentioning its potential to cater to fish farmers in neighboring Meghalaya and even Bangladesh.
During the inauguration event, Minister Suklabaidya acknowledged the satisfaction and gratitude expressed by a beneficiary, Swapan Sutradhar. Sutradhar credited the Fisheries Department for their support, specifically highlighting the ₹119.50 lakh subsidy provided under the CSS scheme for his project.
This milestone marks a significant stride in Assam’s journey towards bolstering local fish production and supporting the livelihoods of fish farmers.
