To receive the benefit, applicants must submit their applications through their respective cooperative societies along with the required documents.
These include:
- Valid fishing licence
- Aadhaar card
- Parivar Register details
- National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP) registration number
- Fisheries Cooperative Society membership certificate
Once submitted, applications will undergo verification by the Fisheries Department before receiving approval at the district level.
This verification process is designed to ensure that the financial assistance reaches genuine beneficiaries.
Direct Benefit Transfer Ensures Transparency
To improve efficiency and eliminate delays, the financial assistance will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of eligible fishermen through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The use of DBT is expected to ensure transparent fund disbursement while reducing administrative bottlenecks and leakages.
The Directorate of Fisheries will oversee the implementation of the scheme and carry out random verification of beneficiaries to maintain accountability and ensure that assistance reaches eligible fishing families.
Digital payment systems have increasingly become an important tool in delivering welfare benefits across India’s fisheries sector, enabling faster and more transparent financial support.
Around 3,700 Fishing Families to Benefit
According to the state government, the scheme is expected to benefit approximately 3,700 fishing families every year.
The beneficiaries are primarily associated with Himachal Pradesh’s major reservoirs, including:
- Gobind Sagar Reservoir
- Pong Dam Reservoir
- Kol Dam Reservoir
- Chamera Reservoir
- Ranjit Sagar Reservoir
These reservoirs support a significant inland fisheries sector that provides employment and income to thousands of families across the state.
To implement the programme, the government has allocated approximately ₹1.20 crore annually, demonstrating its commitment to strengthening social security measures for fishing communities.
Strengthening Inland Fisheries Through Welfare Measures

If the market price of reservoir fish falls below the notified MSP, the government will provide financial support of up to ₹20 per kilogram through the Direct Benefit Transfer system.
